Local ministry in trouble with the City of Gastonia

Faith, Hope and Love Enrichment Ministries Inc. in Gastonia can't seem to stay out of trouble, in spite of their attempts to serve the homeless community. The City of Gastonia is suing the ministry for failing to follow several ordinances. Pastor Moses Colbert says he has been serving the homeless community for 20 years. At issue, among others, is construction trailers placed in the driveway with no permits The trailers are not tied down, and have no handicap ramps. Another issue is trash, but ministry leaders say it isn't trash, but people's belongings.Currently the ministry is being fined between $100 and $300 per day, and total accrued fines total in excess of $60,000.

Silver Line light-rail plan to Gaston County stalled...A 29 mile, East -West light-rail line through Charlotte and into Gaston County appears to be stalled, at least for the time being.Since early 2021, the overall plan for transit and transportation expansion has been mostly idle. At issue is agreement on the scope and installation of the plan by involved parties, and funding. When the plan was announced in 2020, it was expected  by the Charlotte City Council that a penny increase in sales tax would pay 60% of the project cost, and the rest would come from uncommitted federal grants. But North Carolina Republican leaders are cool to the idea of letting Mecklenburg County raise sales taxes to support bike lanes, busses, or rail. They want to focus on roads instead.

A huge thank you to Melissa, Nate & Teagan for the time you spent with Officer Jenkins on Saturday! We know this was the highlight to his day.

Thank you Officer Jenkins for serving our community in such memorable ways & for realizing that small acts of kindness can make a huge difference for someone else as well.

Miami Fusion Cafe is coming to the old Grits N' Greens location in Lowell, but not open yet. We spoke to the owner and they are waiting on the county for permitting. They are also looking for staff.
