We are now about 8 1/2 weeks into our summer drive about. We spent most of last week near Gunnison Colorado. We visited the Painted Wall of the Black Canyon at Gunnison National Park- it was breath taking. The painted wall is taller than the great pyramids, the Washington Monument, the Eiffel Tower, taller than the Empire State building and the Willis Tower (formerly the Sears tower)....separately, not together.On the way back east we stopped in Alma Kansas at the Alma Cheese Company, and picked up cheddar cheese curds, and white cheddar peper cheese curds, which are indescribably delicious!

Gastonia's Trenton Mill Lofts opens..Gastonia's Trenton Mill is the oldest standing textile mill in Gastonia. It has a new lease on life with Trenton Mill Lofts holding a grand opening recently. The mill now houses 85 loft apartments, located near CaroMont Health Park (Honey Hunters ballpark), restaurants and entertainment.
CaroMont 13th largest employerCaroMont Health is Charlotte Metro's 13th largest employer, based on list compiled recently by the Charlotte Business Journal. They have 4,317 employees.They were the only Gaston County based firm listed in the top 25.
Catawba Nation to announce casino construction plansCatawba Two Kings Casino opened last year in Kings Mountain on July 1st. They originally had 500 gaming machines in their pre-launch facility, but have since doubled that to 1000 machines.Construction plans for the permanent casino have been vague, but the Catawba Nation Gaming Authority has announced that a timetable for the construction of the full casino will be announced later in 2022.The casino currently employs 260 workers. They had previously announced a vision for a large two story building with a gaming floor and restaurants. A neighboring 29 story hotel tower was also being planned, although they noted that plans may change.
Chick-fil-a now open on Cox Road in Gastonia
The new Chick-fil-a is now open at 424 Cox Road in Gastonia. They plan to employ 115 full and part time employees. The location on Franklin Boulevard has closed.
