Belmont's Bottle Tree named as  top patio in the Charlotte areaThe Charlotte Observer has named the patio at Belmont's Bottle Tree restaurant as the top patio in the Charlotte Metro area.Formerly the home of the Belmont mayor, this mid-century modern home boasts a patio with two sections. One is a garden section with lounge chairs, and the other is under a pergola with cobblestone flooring. The is also a stage for live music and a fire pit.Their patio is known as The Garden and has grown in stages.  “It’s been a project ever since — we’ve added little pieces here and there,” said general manager Taylor Daniel. “Thank you guys so much for all the support — we really appreciate it. We’re excited to have you out to experience our patio,”

Whitewater Center opens Wildwoods attraction for kidsThe US Natioal Whitewater has opened a new attraction for kids call Wildwoods. The attraction features a tree house village, an obstacle course, and a half mile balance-bike course.“Whitewater has always been driven by the belief that we are genetically coded to play outside,” president and CEO Jeff Wise said.The Wildwoods area requires a day pass, which is $18.The area is fenced, and no fee is required outside the fence.

Gastonia Baseball on a rollThe Gastonia Baseball Club just finished the first half of the season with a record of 46-17. This is a welcome high point, after the low of the debacle with the Honey Hunters. The Honey Hunters left town with unpaid debts of $4 million. But the new owners-Zawyer Sports & Entertainment have made all the difference.

“We can already feel the support and the change,” said General Manager Brady Salisbury. “Everything that they said they were going to do, they’ve done, And not just with me, but with the community so it’s been an easy group to work with.”

Zawyer Sports + Entertainment buys majority stake in Charlotte CheckersThe owners of the Gastonia Baseball Club have now bought controlling interest in the Charlotte Checkers. Zawyer Sports + Entertainment bought a minority stake in the Checkers in February, and have now bought a majority interest, which will be effective October 1.CEO Andy Kaufman said that the company plans to build a practice facility for the Checkers. Said facility  would also host youth and adult hockey leagues, as well as public skating sessions.This make the 3rd Charlottte based team to be sold since June of 2023, 4th if you include the Gastonia Baseball Club. The the other two are the Charlotte Hornets and the Charlotte Knights.

Bailey Marie invited to Perform at the Field & Stream Music Fest

Singer was expelled from Cramerton  Christian Academy for performing in a venue that served alcoholLocal singer Bailey Marie Grigg has been invited to sign at an upcoming music festival headlined by Eric Church and Moran Wallen. She was recently expelled form Cramerton Christian Academy for performing in venues that serve alocohol.

“Being unable to return to school, especially for my senior year, was shocking,” the young singer said in a news release. “I performed at any venue I could to connect with fans and pursue my dreams. This opportunity is beyond what I imagined. I deeply appreciate the community for spreading my story! I truly believe in the saying, ‘When one door closes, another opens.’”

“Blitz” events promote student enrollment in Gaston County Schools 

Gaston County Schools is taking its student enrollment process on the road to make it more convenient for families to register their children for school.  Representatives will be at four community locations over the next two weeks to conduct the school district’s “Student Enrollment Blitz.”

To register at one of the “Student Enrollment Blitz” locations, parents/guardians should bring their ID along with a copy of their child’s birth certificate and health records, and two proofs of residence.  No appointment is needed.  When participants arrive at the “Blitz” location, they should look for the Gaston County Schools registration tents and an activity school bus. If families cannot make it to one of the “Blitz” events, they can still register in person and online (www.gaston.k12.nc.us – click on the “How to Enroll” tab).

Student Vaccine Clinics

The Gaston County Health Department is partnering with Gaston County Schools to host two vaccine clinics to make sure that children have the necessary vaccines to start school.

The events will be held 9 a.m.-1 p.m. July 27 and Aug. 17 at the health department office, 991 W. Hudson Blvd. in Gastonia. 

Parents may schedule an appointment by calling 704-853-5000.Parents will need to bring their child's shot record and proof of insurance. Medicaid will be accepted for those children that do not have insurance.
