Capriotti's Sandwich Shop targeting GastoniaFranchisees David From and Todd Guear have just opened their second Capriotti's on Freeman Park Drive in Charlotte. This makes their second location, with a third planned for Park Road in Charlotte. Gastonia, Huntersville, Indian Land, and Rock Hill are also targeted. No time line has been announced.
Just a rumor- a little bird told us that a Soul Food/Vegan Restaurant is opening in the old Brixx Pizza LocationYou'll never guess who may be opening it!Still just a rumor, but we are hearing two time lottery winner Kenya Sloan of Shelby may be opening a soul food/vegan restaurant in the old Brixx Pizza location in Gastonia. Supposedly Kenya is the daughter or niece of a lady that ran a legendary soul food restaurant on Grover Street in Shelby years ago. Our source says that she has a Charlotte partner that is already in the restaurant business.We hope all of this is true- we will scope it out and get back to you!

Gaston County Police would like to announce the retirement of K9 Mack.
Mack has faithfully served the citizens of Gaston County for more than seven years. K9 Mack has been the valued partner to Officer Anthony throughout his entire career.
During his tenure, K9 Mack has aided in more than 300 felony arrests, assisted in over 100 track finds, and assisted in seizing approximately $2,800,000 in drugs and cash.
K9 Mack will remain with Officer Anthony to enjoy his well-deserved, long and happy retirement (enjoying all of his favorite treats and toys).

Green Meadows Golf Course ClosedLots of local golfers are disappointed, as the Green Meadows Golf Course in Mount Holly has closed. January 1st was the last day.The course opened in 1945, and was frequented by local golfers, and by local middle school and high school teams for practice and tournaments.There is lots of speculation online about uses for the property, most referencing a housing development. In August of 2021 the Mount Holly City Council rescinded a request for rezoning and annexation of the golf course property.

Gastonia names Conrad new police chiefTrent Conrad was named new police chief in Gastonia. The City had advertised nationwide, and had 40 candidates, of which 8 were interviewed, and 4 were selected for an extensive test. “After an extensive nationwide search, it was clear that Interim Chief Conard was the right choice to continue leading the GPD,” said City Manager Michael Peoples.
