The Honey Hunters file countersuitNC Gas House Gang, owners of the Honey Hunters, have filed a countersuit against the City of Gastonia, claiming that the City schemed with the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball to take control of the team, subsequently locking the Honey Hunters out of the CaroMont Health Park stadium.This comes after the Atlantic League terminated the Honey Hunters membership because of over $1 million in debt in November. Reportedly the Gas House Gang was able to find an angel investor that was willing to put up over $1 million, and that they also had two prospective buys who had filed letters of intent to purchase the team for $4 million. "Bewildered by the ruthlessness of plaintiff's and the leagues moves, NC Gas House Gang was driven into bankruptcy." according to the lawsuit.Neither the Atlantic League or the City have made any comment to date.Earlier this month a Maryland bankruptcy court ruled against a motion filed by NC Gas House Gang that would have reinstated the Honey Hunters to the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Judge Lori Simpson wrote in her ruling that NC Gas House Gang "admitted that it is not operating and has no money." "Even if Debtor were able to prove that the League violated Pennsylvania law in terminating its membership, nothing before the Court would support a conclusion that Debtor has or would have the resources and ability to provide adequate assurance of its ability to cure its defaults under its agreement with the League," Simpson wrote

Gastonia to install 9 license plate reading cameras, some folks uneasyAre license plate reading cameras that can also identify car makes and models a good idea, or a little two Big Brother? The Gastonia City Council recently approved the purchase of 9 cameras from Flock Safety for distribution around the City of Gastonia. The total cost for the project is $48,900.
At a recent council meeting, police chief Trent Conard addressed the dais advocating for the new camera system. “It’s not something where we’re invading anyone’s privacy. We’re looking for criminal activity alone.” Conard said. But many advocacy groups are concerned about how the technology might be used. Chief Conard claims that where cameras are used, crime drops by 70%.
Amazon puts large Gaston County facility up for subleaseAmazon recently put a 286,272 square foot building at Gateway85, between Gastonia and Lowell, up for sublease. Amazon had planned to hire 300 workers for that facility, but those plans are on hold. They are not canceled, just on hold.
“Subleasing is a commonly used industry practice that gives companies operational flexibility," said an Amazon spokesperson. "Our intention is to try and operate this facility in the future."

German company to build BMW parts in Gaston CountyHeyco-Werk, a subsidiary of the German Heyco Group will build a $12.7 million plant in the Apple Creek Corporate Center in Gastonia.The new facility will create 34 new jobs.The company will produce will make plastic molded parts for BMW SUV's worldwide. This will be Heyco's second U.S. Plant.The new jobs will pay an average wage of $63,382, well above the county average of $46,351.
Lane Seven Apparel signs lease in Gateway85 California's Lane Seven Apparel has signed a lease in the massive Gateway85 complex between Gastonia and Lowell. They have leased a 64,757 square foot building, and intend on moving in the second quarter. A number of expected jobs was not disclosed.Lane Seven sells their own brand of casual clothes made of what they call a 3 end knit, and also do custom manufacturing.

“I don’t think we’ll ever do the Silver Line without doing the Red Line.” . The Silver Line is the 29 mile east-west light rail line from Union County, along Independence Boulevard, to Uptown, to the airport, and then to Belmont and Gaston County. The Red Line would run from Uptown to Huntersville, Cornelius, and Davidson. Previously, the Mayor was championing only the Silver Line, but evidently that has changed.At issue is the fact that a Mecklenburg county wide transit tax has been in effect for 25 years, and those northern cities mentioned above have seen little to no benefit, in spite of their tax bill.There are plenty of issues to be worked out; among them is negotiating with Norfolk Southern for the use of their tracks.

Last Monday morning crews responded to a tractor trailer who experienced a structural defect after crossing the railroad tracks on Cox Rd coming into Ranlo today. As soon as the driver crossed the tracks the box began to buckle. Firefighters from Ranlo Fire and Rescue made an access cut into the side of the box to help offload the product being shipped.

Gaston College baseball has got it going on!
The nationally ranked Gaston College Rhinos completed a smashing weekend season debut with a doubleheader sweep of Guilford Tech Sunday at Sims Legion Park.
Following on the heels of Saturday's 13-1 victory, the Rhinos flexed offensive muscle and stellar pitching with a 10-2 win in game one and a 16-0 decision in the second game that was shortened to 4 1/2 innings on the mercy rule.
Off to a 3-0 start, Gaston College faces stiffer competition next weekend against Walters State Community College, which is ranked in the Top 10 of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I poll.
"It's a tough task, but also a chance to see where we are," Doty said of the upcoming series. "We are playing the No. 4 or No. 5 ranked team in the country, and we are in the top 15."
Dave Canales hired as Panthers head coachThe Carolina Panthers have hired Dave Canales, 42, as their next head coach. Canales was formerly with the Tampa Bay Buccanners, where he helped that team-and quarterback Baker Mayfield, to a division title and a playoff win this season.Canales had previously worked with the Seattle Seahawks for 13 years.He worked closely there with Dan Morgan, Panther's General Manager and former Panthers player.
