Project Conduct could bring $50 million investment to Gaston CountyIt looks promising, but Gaston county Executive Director of Economic Development Commission Donnie Hicks says the $50 million dollar Project Conduct is not a done deal. An unnamed manufacturer is considering building an advanced manufacturing facility at the Apple Creek Corporate Center, located between Gastonia and Dallas. The project would create 50 jobs with an average annual salary of $50k.This evening the Gaston County Board of Commissioners will consider authorization for the land sale, and incentives to bring the project to Gaston County.

Actually it's Lake Lunngern in Switzerland.Unfortunately Jupiter Florida resident Olivia Garcia missed the joke, and drove from Florida to Gastonia expecting to see snow covered mountains. “I’m from south Florida, so the closest thing we have to mountains down here are landfills, which is why I was so excited when I saw the TikTok,” Garcia explained. “I had never heard of Gastonia before, but the name sounded like something out of a Disney movie.” said Garcia. “I realized when we were like 20 minutes out that something wasn’t right."“I told her I was sorry on her video,” said Keesee, who lives in Durham, N.C., and graduated from N.C. State. “She seemed to take some humor out of it, and said it was OK.”

Gaston College 10h largest in NCGaston College is the 10th largest community college in North Carolina according to a list compiled by the Charlotte Business Journal. Gaston college has 13,962 students enrolled for the 2020-21 school year, as compared to 18,695 in 2019-20. Enrollment was down in all 25 schools listed, perhaps because of COVID.

COVID 19 Vaxathon to be held February 5th
An event to allow more people to be vaccinated against COVID 19 will be held in various Gaston County locations on February 5th between 10 AM and 2 PM. Only 51% of Gaston County residents are fully vaccinated.The event is designed to allow those who have had doubts, but now see the positive results, effectiveness and necessity of getting a vaccine.The vaccine and boosters will be available simultaneously in 10 different locations:

OpinionCongress benefiting from insider trading?Insider trading: Insider trading is the trading of a company's stocks or other securities by individuals with access to confidential or non-public information about the company. ... Problems also exist with regard to insiders “tipping” friends about non-public information that may influence the company's publicly-traded stock price. It is illegal because it is unfair to the trading public that does not have access to this same information.Although senators continue to claim they don't profit off of insider trading, the facts seem to suggest otherwise. In one example, several senators — including Dianne Feinstein, a Democrat; and Kelly Loeffler and Richard Burr, both Republicans — sold stocks after receiving a private briefing on Covid-19 weeks after the discovery of the first case in China.A new law has been proposed to force members of Congress to place their assets in a blind trust, operated by someone else. It would prevent members and senior Congressional aides from buying and selling individual stocks. “It is a huge conflict of interest for someone to be trading in, say, pharmaceutical stocks at the same time as making policy for pharmaceutical companies,” said bill sponsor Jeff Merkley, who represents Oregon.The bill isn't receiving much support from either party. Nancy Pelosi, the House speaker, has argued that members of Congress deserve the same freedom as other Americans to buy and sell stocks. “We are a free-market economy,” Pelosi said last month. Members of Congress “should be able to participate in that.”Members can participate in the free economy- through a blind trust. It is important that members of Congress do not participate in the evil of insider trading, but also from the appearance of evil. Human nature being what it is, it is necessary control.Congress passed the Stock Act in 2012, which requires members to disclose trades within 45 days. But the rule is often ignored, and when the rule is enforced, the fine for a first time offense is only $200.Insider trading is blatantly unfair, and is illegal for the general public.
