Danish company to invest $5.6 mil, create 50 + jobsThe Danish Company Lynddahl will invest $5.6 million in a upfit to an exiting building in Belmont. The movie by Lnnddahl will also create 50 plus new jobs Gaston County, with an average salary of around $60k. The facility is located at 408 Brook Street in Belmont. “Everyone is increasingly expecting high speed internet everywhere — be it for remote work, distance learning or leisure,” LTA's president, Jacob Ulrik Petersen, said in the release. “Over the next decade, historic investments into upgrading broadband access throughout America will be made and this represents a major business opportunity for us. We have found a cost-effective method to rapidly deploy fiber optics in Europe and we are excited about being able to offer this to our American, Canadian and Mexican partners.”LTA will be eligible to receive a $100,000 grant based on their performance in meeting job creation and capital investment targets form the state's One North Caroloi9na Fund.

Gastonia man found safeThomas Lowery has been found safe. The Gastonia man was found at the Food Lion in Cramerton after going missing Sunday morning. He was tracked by K9 "Bo" the bloodhound.Police said Thomas Lowery is diabetic with a history of seizures. He has moderate intellectual disabilities and only speaks with a whisper.

Stanley appoints new Fire ChiefAfter a turbulent couple of weeks, Stanley has appointed Gary Hilton as new fire chief. Former Chief Eric Withers and Deputy Chief Michael Hullett were let go. Hullett was informed via email of the dismissal, and Withers only learned after being texted with the news from another fire fighter.The nature of the dismissal led as many as two dozen of the towns fire fighters to resign in protest. Both the former Chief and Deputy Chief work for the Charlotte Fire Department.
“I had absolutely no idea,” Hullett said of the vote to restructure the department. “I’m not mad they replaced us. We need a full-time chief. I would have been more than happy to stand in and help out through a transition period if that had just been communicated. Very unprofessional, the way this was handled.”

Kings Mountain gets $800k grant for EV charging stationsKing Mountaion has received an $800,000 grant for EV charging stations as part of a $623 million dollar program to put electric vehicle charging stations along major highways.Kings Mountain City Manager Jim Palenick said that most of the focus for the new charging stations will be around Exit 5, where the casino is located. Others will be placed in downtown Kings Mountain.

Mount Holly, NC – On January 10, 2024, a concerned citizen played a pivotal role in alerting Mount Holly Police Officer Haley Helton about a distressed boater stranded in the middle of Dutchman’s Creek near Nims Avenue. Officer Helton promptly reached out to Chief Ryan Baker of the Mount Holly Fire Department for assistance. Responding swiftly, the department deployed to East Nims Avenue, successfully locating the stranded individual whose boat had become lodged between two trees due to recent flooding. The first unit to arrive on scene included Captain Patrick Mayhew, Firefighter Clint Laughlin, Firefighter Gaetano Leone, and Firefighter Blake Davis.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Chief Baker mobilized additional resources, including Engine 34, Squad 35, and GEMS (Gaston Emergency Medical Services).
Upon arrival, Chief Baker instructed the stranded individual to don a lifejacket, a crucial safety measure successfully executed. Firefighters skillfully deployed a rope bag to the distressed boat operator, who adeptly attached the rope to the pontoon. Firefighter Blake Davis, secured by a tagline, skillfully navigated his way to the stranded boat and facilitated the safe return of the individual to the shore.
In a remarkable turn of events, within five minutes of the rescue operation, the boat overturned. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The agile rescue team promptly secured the boat to a tree behind the address, ensuring the safety of all parties involved.
