Hello fellow Gaston Countians! Okay, I just made up that word...Anyway, today is February 28th, 2023.Did you know that this is Dr. Seuss week? Google it and check it out...It corresponds to National Read Across America Day, which is March 2nd, or Thursday. My mother always disliked Dr. Seuss books, but I loved them. Who doesn't love "How the Grinch stole Christmas"?, or Green eggs and ham". Yes, there is a brouhaha about some offensive images in his early books, but remember that Theodore Geisel was born in 1904. I'm all for kindness and inclusiveness, but maybe we shouldn't throw the baby, errr. cat out with the bath water.By the way- did you know Dr. Seuss coined the word "nerd"?

Teachers show up at Gaston County School Board meeting over paycheck issuesSome Gaston County teachers, cafeteria workers, and school bus drivers fear that they could be in trouble with the IRS. That's because of payroll issues that began last fall after the system changed to Oracle software. Approximately 1,800 payroll incidents were reported, and there are about 500 still being resolved.Employees at the meeting are concerned about filing their W-2's. “I don’t want to mess around with the IRS and I’m not a tax accountant, and so I’m really scared filing my taxes not knowing if it’s correct and being liable for that if I do and something’s wrong,” Willis said. “There’s questions about what should I owe, when will I get my taxes back out of that? It’s a big mess.” said Sherry Willis, a Gaston County teacher.
