City of Gastonia, Gaston County  partner with Faith, Hope &Love MinistriesIn a show of good faith the City of Gastonia and Gaston County hosted an event for approximately  100  homeless people that  were camping on the Faith, Hope & Love property yesterday. The City of Gastonia  had given those living at the property until 8 AM to vacate.

Resource tables were set up in the Gaston County Department of Health & Human Services’ back parking lot, located on North Oakland Street and East Walnut Avenue.City and county officials gave information from several resources, including non-profit groups and the faith community. The church will continue to provide a place to shower and serve food to those without a home.

The homeless community and Pastor Moses Colbert have been at odds with the City for some months, and the church currently owes the City over $100k in fines.

Lowell gets $500k grant for parkThe City of Lowell has received a $500,000 grant for a revitalization project for Harold Rankin Park. The City of Lowell was one of 19 local governments in North Carolina that was awarded funding. Harold Rankin Park is the most used recreational facility within the City of Lowell. The property is owned by the City and has served the community as a park since 1978. Harold Rankin Park is approximately 7-acres and features 2 baseball fields, a concessions/restrooms building, playground, basketball court, picnic shelter, exercise equipment, and a walking track.Following several public input meetings and surveys in 2021 and 2022, a site-specific Master Plan was developed for Harold Rankin Park. The Master Plan will be implemented in a series of phases, as funding is available or secured.Phase 1 of the project includes upgraded restroom facilities, a nature trail, pickleball courts, a bocce ball court, a new half-court basketball court, conversion of land to a multi-purpose field, and a playground expansion with upgrades. The playground will be designed to be universally inclusive and the restroom facility will be ADA / ABA compliant.Future improvements will include: ballfield bleachers, ballfield dugouts, ballfield fencing, batting cage, parking and access improvements, paving and relocation of northern entry drive, a new concessions/restroom building, and an additional shelter.

Western & Southern tennis tournament sees attendance jumpCharlotte's plan to lure the Western & Southern tennis tournament here from Cincinnati may be on the back burner, because of a push by Cincinnati  to keep the tournament. Supposedly fans were "blown away" by $80 million dollars in improvements to the facility.A new facility is planned in west Charlotte in the River District adjoining Gaston County. Beemok Capital , which owns the tournament, is openly eyeing Charlotte as a potential venue for the tournament. A decision is expected is September or October. Hopefully, if we don't get the Western And Southern, we could get another major tournament. The proximity of the tournament would be a major boost to the food and hotel industry in Gaston County.By the way-Novak Djokovic beat Carlos Alcaraz in the men's final at the Western and Southern on Sunday, Coco Gauff continues her tear, defeating Karolina Muchova. The US Open started yesterday in Flushing Meadows New York.

This is second hand information- the downtown clock in Belmont recently received some maintenance.
