What next for the Confederate Monument?Moving the Confederate monument in front of the Gaston County courthouse was supposedly a done deal. But the Sons of the Confederate Veterans backed out of taking possession of the monument for fear of a lawsuit related to removal of the statue.Commissioners had voted 6-1 on August 3rd to move the statue, but now that seems to be up in the air. Stay tuned for animated arguments from both sides.

UNCC Delays Start of School Year.UNC Charlotte will delay in-person classes until October 1. Online classes will begin September 7 as scheduled. UNCC Chancellor Sharon Gaber said they are doing this in hopes that the Coronavirus numbers will stabilize. Students will now move into dorms September 26-29.

NC Recovery Stalled?

North Carolina’s recovery from the pandemic hit a snag in July, with the state’s unemployment rate increasing to 8.5%, up from 7.5% in June, according to numbers released Friday by the Labor Department. It was one of only 9 states to have an increase in the unemployment rate.

 3 People Have Died of Covid-19  Since Last Tuesday

3 people have died of Covid-19 in Gaston County since last Tuesday. To date, we have had 3,846 positive tests, and currently have 1220 active cases, 2565 recovered, and 61 deaths. Check out Gaston County's new dashboard here.  The numbers are finally starting to fall, if ever so slightly.
