Former Save a Lot grocery to become downtown food hall

Lenox Development Group of Cramerton is planning on building a food hall similar to Optimist Hall in Charlotte on the site  former Save a lot  grocery store in Gastonia. The site is adjacent to CaroMont Health Park in the FUSE District. At right is a proposed drawing of the type of structure Lenox is considering.City Councilman Robert Kellogg said "

I think it's great. It's a wonderful idea and it would be a great amenity to that area of Gastonia.

That part of the city is changing. The vibe and the feeling and the amenities that are wanted there are really looking at a different demographic and trying to make a welcoming statement to younger people and individuals who want to live there and walk to a restaurant or to a place where they can get some food and have some fun. So I think it's a great addition, and it fits right in with the plan."

The planned Gastonia food hall will resemble Optimist Hall in Charlotte (above).

New Lowell Park announced

Three generations ago Dr. Gary McCord's grandfather operated a business on a lot he owned in the center of Lowell at the intersection of Main Street and Highway 7, across from the Lowell City Hall. The buildings on that lot are long gone, but the property, now a large, level grass-covered strip, has remained in the McCord family. And today it was announced  that Dr. McCord, who owns South Point Family Dentistry in Belmont, has made the lot available to the City of Lowell to be used as a park that will be called McCord Family Park.

Lowell City Manager Scott Attaway described plans for the park this way: "The City of Lowell is excited for this new open space park that will feature a walking path, benches, picnic tables, and a small shade structure that will double as a performance venue as well as a picnic shelter. It will be a great outdoor spot for downtown visitors and local business employees to enjoy their lunch breaks, and this park will serve as a great programming space for small concerts, art festivals, outdoor fitness classes, and of course the home of the City’s Christmas Tree!"
