Gastonia's microtransit a victim of it's own successGastonia recently stopped bus service, adding small vans, or microtransit instead. Just one month into the new service, GoGastonina has already provided more than 16,000 rides,.But problems occur when the vans don't actually show up , or riders have inordinately long wait times, or aren't picked up at all.The city is looking into potential remedies, including adding more vehicles, or possibly having one bus run a daily route. Gastonia still owns buses, but repairs are expensive, and operating a bus can cost up to $1000 per day.According to Randi Gates, Gastonia Director of Transportation, the new GoGastonia program has taken off harder and faster than comparable programs.
