Financial questions delay construction of Catawba Two Kings Mountain Casino? Financial concerns may be delaying construction of the permanent casino in King Mountain. Regulators with the National Indian Gaming Commission are concerned about how much of the casino profits will go to outside backers. Federal law mandates that tribes get the primary benefit from gambling proceeds.The Wall Street Journal reported over the weekend that shares in a company called Kings Mountain Equipment Supply LLC were given to relatives of several politicians. The company supplies slot machines to the Catawba Two Kings Casino in Kings Mountain. That company reportedly receives 20% of the profits from the casino.
The Wall Street Journal reports that the shares went to John B. Clyburn, brother of Democratic U.S. Rep. James Clyburn; Michael Haley, husband of former Republican S.C. Gov. and U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley; and Patti Solis Doyle, a Democratic political operative who helped manage Hillary Clinton’s 2008 campaign.The shares “gave each of the recipients a slice of a slot-machine leasing company called Kings Mountain Equipment Supply LLC, whose major shareholders include financial backers of the Catawba Two Kings Casino” or their associates, the Journal reported, citing documents connected to the project.The article also states: “Ethics lawyers say the arrangement raises questions about the propriety of those seeking help from the government giving financial incentives to the relatives of officials in a position to make or influence policy.”

Lineberger Pool opens...finallyThe pool at Lineberger Park was closed as of June and through the 4th of July. It finally opened July 9th. Was there something wrong with the pool? Nope- just no lifeguards. Nationwide about 1/3 of all pools are affected. Many have cut hours, or closed altogether. In Raleigh, about half the city's pools remain closed.
Lineberger Park Pool opened in the summer of 2012. Designed as more of a small-scale water park, it has a little bit of something for everyone. It features a zero-depth entry with fountain geysers on “the beach,” a lazy river, a two-story water-slide, three lanes for lap swimming, and colorful splash features including a bucket dump and three rainfall aqua domes. There are restrooms with showers and dressing space. A free basket service is offered to keep personal belongings. Lounge chairs are available to rent. A concession stand located within the corner of the pool house serves swimmers and park patrons.

They currently have 10 licensed electricians and 234 employees locally.Dallas Electrical Contractors of Gastonia tied for 20th. Founded in 1967, they have 40 employees. They do commercial, industrial, and residential wiring and plumbing.
New cancer treatment for dogs being tried at ForestBrook Animal HospitalDogs are part of the family. Our family just lost a dog to cancer last week. So a new cancer treatment for dogs is too late for us, but still exciting.The drug Stelfonta has just been approved by the FDA. It is an innovative and effective treatment for Mast Cell tumors in dogs.The new drug comes from a plant in the rainforest of the Amazon. Dr. Mark Epstein, a veterinarian with ForestBrook, serves on the advisory board with the drug. He recently treated a tumor on a local dogs leg with the drug, and the tumor died and rotted away.
“I knew very well how it worked and I knew very well what my expectations were,” said Dr. Epstein.

Long planned project on Lincoln Gaston County lines moving ahead?The Riverbend Preserve, a mixed use development on the Lincoln Gaston County lines, may be finally moving ahead.Site plans for the project have been filed since 2019. The development calls for 450 single family homes, and 2.5 million square feet of industrial space. The project has 262 acres in Lincoln County and 404 acres on the Gaston County side.The Shaw Tate Group is working with Childress Klein on the industrial development areas of the project. The project is located on Highway 16 and Killian Road.
CaroMont Health partners to open surgery center in BelmontCaroMont Health is partnering with 3 local practices to open Belmont Surgery Center. The practices are Othopaedic & Sports Medicine Center, OrthoCarolina, and Neuroscience & Spine Center of the Carolinas.A mid 2023 opening is targeted, and the practice will occupy 14,000 square feet of the first floor of a building to be adjacent to CaroMont Regional Medical Center Belmont.

Parks and Recreation Assistant needed The Town of Dallas is seeking a sports-minded individual to fill the position of Parks and Recreation Assistant. This position performs athletic and recreation program planning, coordination, facilitation, and administrative support of the Parks and Recreation Department. Excellent customer service skills are required. Applicant will assist in maintaining programs, facilities, and events under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Director. Considerable knowledge of resources, materials, game rules, equipment and facilities utilized in a public recreation program; including necessary maintenance of athletic fields and facilities is required; as well as operation of standard maintenance equipment (mowers, string trimmers, field drags, etc.). Work schedule will require frequent nights, weekends, and holidays. Graduation from a two-year college or university with an Associate’s degree in physical education, business administration, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A Bachelor’s degree with major course work in recreation administration, physical education, or related field and considerable experience in recreational programming is preferred. Possession of CPR and First Aid Certification to be obtained within 6 months of employment. Hiring range for this position is $39,188--$43,577 DOQ, with a 5% increase upon successful completion of a 6-month probationary period.
