The former Kress store, located on Main Avenue in downtown Gastonia, is now available for lease. Built in 1930 and designed by Edward F. Sibbert in the distinctive Art Deco style, this building is a contributing structure in the Downtown Gastonia Historic District and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Waffle House coming to CheryvilleRight now, there is nowhere to get a cup of coffee at 2 AM in Cherryville, but that's about to change. A new Waffle House is coming to Bud Black Road and Hwy. 150, next to Wal-Mart.A construction start or completion date has not yet been confirmed.
Former Miss Gastonia is now Miss North CarolinaSophia Kellstrom is a Kings Mountain graduate and a former Miss Gastonia. She was recently crowned Miss North Carolina.Kelstrom received over $22,000 in scholarships. She will compete in the Miss America pageant on YouTube September 2-7, where it will be streamed live.
Literary Festival coming to Belmont August 30thThe Downtown Belmont Development Association and the owners of the Belmont Bookshop are teaming up to put together a literary festival. There will be activities for both children and adults. These include author meet and greets, book signings, an artisan and vendor market, a live DJ, a literary trivia game, hot dog eating contest, and a 20 plus local and well known authors. Gaston County teacher vacancy the lowest in 3 yearsThe good news is the Gaston County's teacher vacancy is the lowest it has been in three years. But tons of other positions remain open, especially bus drivers. But according to the Gaston county Schools website, there are 73 vacancies for teachers, 39 for bus drivers, 31 for coaches, 25 for teachers assistants, and 13 for custodians.Check it out here
CaroMont 3rd largest in regionAccording to the Charlotte Business Journal, Caromont Regional Medical Center is the 3rd largest hospital chain in the Charlotte Metro area, with a total of 476 beds. Only Atrium and Novant are larger, with 881, and 593 beds, respectively.The number of full time employees at CaroMont was unavailable.
