Gaston Dance Theatre to present new take on CinderellaGaston Dance Theatre, led by former student Camilla Bullard, is presenting a new take on the classic Cinderella. The new production will feature piano music, contemporary and classical dance, and more. Performances will be at 7 PM April 19 and 1 PM and 7 PM on April 20 at Gaston Christian School. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for students and seniors, and $10 for children under 5.The Dance Theatre's production of the Nutcracker was sold out for the first time in December. Proceeds form ticket sales go for dance scholarships, operational expenses, costumes and set designs.Info and tickets..

The Belmont Drive-In is back!The Belmont Drive-In, which had been closed since 2014, reopened last year. This year will be their first full year back. Slope Rating, Gaston County has two of the toughest private golf courses in North Carolina.Tied for #11, Cramer Mountain Country Club has a Men's Slope rating of 14, and a men's course rating of 73. At #24 is Gaston Country Club, with a Men's Slope rating of 137, and a Men's Course rating of 74.
Gaston County has a daily net migration of 9.12 people in 2023Gaston County is growing, but not as fast as Mecklenburg. According to a study by the Charlotte Business Journal, Gaston County had a daily net migration of +9.12 people in 2023. Lincoln County had +7.2, and Mecklenburg had +31.78 during the same period.So that was an average of about 274 new people in Gaston County monthly, or 3,283 per year.
Lauren Bowers, chief of the Census Bureau’s Population Estimates Branch, said domestic migration patterns are changing in the wake of the pandemic.

Gastonia Police to offer $15,000 incentives for lateral transfersLast Tuesday the Gastonia City Council authorized a $15,000 incentive for police officers who transfer to the Gastonia Police Department. That incentive is the highest in all of North Carolina at present. The city had been offering a $7500 incentive.Gastonia Police Chief Trent Conrad said the incentive will help attract qualified sworn officers to fill Gastonia's ranks. The city already offers perks like take home cars, and extra pay for certain shifts, as well as for those who speak a foreign language.

Andrew Tench still missing
Tench's car was found in Monroe, a place his family said he had no reason to visit. Also, his driver's seat was adjusted to a position that wouldn't fit the 5'5" tall Tench. Receipts from Charlotte and Matthews were found inside the vehicle.Gaston County Police referred questions about Andrew Tench to Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department. Calls to CMPD were not returned by press time.

The Community Foundation Run is an annual fundraising event for local nonprofits facilitated by the Foundation. On the day of the Run, thousands of people come together for one of the biggest celebrations of community spirit and support in Gaston County.The Community Foundation is one of the very best things about Gaston County. $27,082,711 has been raised since the Run began in 2003. Since that time, the Community Foundation has contributed over $3,848,000 to the Match Fund that supports all participating nonprofit organizations. Gaston College extends winning streak to 7 with Friday's DH sweep
Gaston College's softball team completed its 14th doubleheader sweep of the season with a workmanlike effort in 11-3 and 8-3 victories over Brunswick Community College on Friday afternoon at Gastonia's CaroMont Health Park.
The victories extended the Rhinos' winning streak to seven games and improved their record 33-5 overall.
"Anytime you get the wins, it's good," said Gaston College coach Mike Steuerwald, whose team has received votes in the National Junior College Athletic Association poll five times in the last weeks. "I feel like we haven't been necessarily playing good but we've been doing what's necessary to get the wins. And winning is hard."
On Friday, Gaston College got complete game wins from starters Abigail Gawlinski (14-4) and Abigail Brewton (15-1).


Top-ranked Gaston College has second straight DH split at USC Union
Top-ranked Gaston College's baseball team had a "deja vu all over again" moment on Sunday as the Rhinos had an impressive offensive outing in the opener for a second straight day at USC Union then struggled at the plate in the nightcap to lose for a second straight doubleheader split.
Sunday's results give the Rhinos records of 40-5 overall and 17-3 in Region 10.
"I can't explain it," said Gaston College coach Shohn Doty, whose team won 14-0 in five innings in Sunday's opener before losing 2-1 in the nightcap. "Obviously, we've got work to do tomorrow at practice. We've got to get back on the horse and see how we respond. It's just a disappointing weekend. Splits aren't what we're about."
