Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden rebrands
Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden is now Daniel Stowe Conservancy. They have a new logo, and a new focus:" Find your path to nature".
“Our staff can’t wait to make this new promise to our guests,” says Stowe Executive Director and CEO John Searby, “to help all discover their path to nature. When Dan Stowe set this property aside, he was clear that it was for all to enjoy and be inspired by the beauty of nature. We believe that not only does our new brand communicate that intent, but that the renovations and enhancement we have made this spring will make that a reality.”
Some of these renovations and enhancements include:
Expanded food and drink options so that you can easily plan a full day outdoors and keep the whole family happy.
The new Farmhouse Garden Center (opening May 3), so you can better cultivate your own green thumb.
The new Prairie Castle Playground and Adventure Trail (opening June) to provide a natural, exciting playscape for kids to jump, imagine and explore.
New trails and trail systems, putting us at over eight miles of scenic trails on the property that include diverse landscape views, from the shores of Lake Wylie to peaceful woodlands to our Piedmont prairie.
Members acquire Cramer Mountain Golf ClubCramer Mountain Club paid $4.1 million to acquire the club from DMD Investors, led by John and Mary Doctor."In the last three years, we made a concerted effort to basically reinvent the club and put us in a position to where we could control our own destiny and purchase the golf course and purchase the facilities around it," said Club President John Fagan. "That's exactly what we did." The club has added pickleball courts, a half basketball court, enhanced the pool, tennis courts, and golf course.The club currently has about 600 members, and expects to sell out memberships by the end of summer.
Several local firms make the list of largest Charlotte Metro manufacturing companiesIn a list complied by the Charlotte Busienss Journal, several Gaston County companies made the list of the largest manufacturing companies in the region.First among those was Daimler Trucks North America. Although it wasn't clear how many people Daimler employs in Gaston County only, they do have plants in Mount Holly and Gastonia. They list 6800 local employees, but that may include employees in Cleveland NC as well.Owens Corning in Dallas came in at #36, with 500 employees.Mann+ Hummel in Gastonia placed at #37 with 500 employees.Burlan Manufacturing in Gastonia was #75 with 120 employees.Parkdale Mill out of Gastonia was on the list. They did not disclose local employee numbers, but have 4500 total employees.
Gaston Aquatic Center coming alongThe Gaston Aquatic Center has quietly been going through permitting and other construction steps, and grading equipment is expected back on site in Dallas this week. We understand that the building has been ordered...so it's really happening! We are so excited- what a great thing for Gaston County!
Is that a light at the end of the tunnel for light rail and the Silver Line?As originally proposed, the Silver Line of light rail was a 29 mile east to west line, running through uptown Charlotte, connecting Matthews with Gaston County, with a stop at the airport.But last year, spending concerns led architects of the plan to switch to Bus Rapid Transit Service for a lot of the Silver Line. Matthews is not in favor of Bus Rapid Transit.But Charlotte State lawmaker Tricia Cotham has introduced House Bill 948, which would change the percentages allowable for light rail, which may enable light rail to Matthews, and perhaps the entire Silver Line.
Gastonia woman wins $100,000 playing PowerballElizabeth McAteer of Gastonia won $10,000 playing Powerball. She purchased a $3 Quick Pick Ticket at the Harris Teeter on Robinwood Road.McAteer took home $71,757 after taxes.

Charlotte Checkers have 2nd straight profitable yearSo what does that have to do with Gaston County? Except for local Checkers fans, not much. BUT, as the Checkers and the Gastonia Ghost Peppers are both owned by Zawyer Sports, it just shows what an effective, professional management team can do for a local sports business.
