Tanner Muse signs with PittsburghBelmont native, South Point and Clemson alumni Tanner Muse has signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was drafted by the Los Vegas Raiders in the 2020 draft. After being on injured reserve, Tanner was waived by the Raiders without having taken a single snap in the 2020-21 season.In the 2021-22 season he was signed with the Seattle Seahawks, and was on both the practice squad and the active roster.He is on the 2023 active roster with the Steelers.
Keter US closing Stanley plantKeter US, makers of resin based products such as outdoor furniture, has announced they are closing their Stanley NC location.About 65 employees will lose their jobs, and they are expected to close by June 30th.
Do you take the train?I once took my grandfather to the train station in Gastonia. Thank goodness it has recently had a 3.2 million dollar upgrade by Amtrak.Amtrak, working with the city of Gastonia, North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and Norfolk Southern, advanced a series of accessibility improvements. This included the construction of a new concrete platform with all new lighting, guardrails, and signage. The platform provides a sturdy, uniform surface for customers to board on and off the train.Additional improvements included an accessible restroom, renovated waiting room, and power-operated door entrance in the station, and a newly paved parking lot with an entrance driveway and two accessible parking spaces for customers who use wheeled mobility devices.
Sears, Sears...and Omega SportsSears is closing it's last North Carolina Store. The store at Friendly Center in Greensboro is slated to close. Sears closed their store in Hanes Mall in Winston-Salem in 2018. The Gastonia Sears at Eastridge Mall closed in 2014.Sears filed for bankruptcy in 2018, and announced it was closing 188 stores. The website Scrape Hero says there are 18 Sears locations left in the US, including the one in Greensboro.Gaston County never had an Omega Sports that I know of, but I used to shop their Charlotte Stores. Turns out they are going away too. They have announced they are closing all stores due to supply chain shortages, wage and cost inflation. They expect all stores to be closed by early summer.Pretty soon only Walmart and Amazon will be left.
