Back Yard Burgers has closedOpened in 2020, Gastonia's Back Yard Burgers has closed. I doubt too many of you will be disappointed, I never saw any cars there. I hear their burgers are good, but I never tried them. Evidently you didn't either.

Durty Bull Brewery to open in Fuse District in GastoniaDurty Bull Brewery is coming along with the remodel of their building,and they just poured a new patio. They expect to be open late summer.

Gastonia's new "Social District"The North Carolina General Assembly passed a law allowing social districts last year, where people can take a drink from a bar or restaurant out onto the street within the district. The districts are tightly regulated. Bars have to serve to-go drinks in special cups and there are strict boundaries for the districts.The Gastonia Police Department held a meeting recently to clarify the rules for local bars and restaurants recently. Both participating and non-participating venues were in attendance.

Culver's - known for their butterburger and frozen custard, is opening April 24th in Belmont. They are located behind Chick-fil-A, at 874 Hawley Avenue.

DePalo Foods unveiledLast week we told you that Gaston County approved an incentivized industrial project that was code named project Deli. Turns out that company is DePalo Foods. They already have a location in the Oaks, a business park near Belmont Abbey.DiPalo Foods makes pizza dough, strombolis and calzones. They will increase their plant by 12,500 square feet, and will eventually employ an additional 40 employees.

Special meeting of Museum supportersDue to recent concerns over County funding for our museum, the Board of Trustees will be holding a special meeting for all museum supporters on Thursday, April 13th at 5pm in the Anne Biggers Furr Learning Depot, 205 W. Main St, Dallas N.C. 28034. Consultants from the recent benchmarking study will be present to answer questions, as well as board members, museum leadership, and County management.

Piedmont Lithium asking Cherryville to relinquish ETJ over 137 acresPiedmont Lithium is asking Cherryviile to relinquish extra-territorial jurisdiction over 137 acres of Lithium's property to Gaston County. Piedmont Lithium says that Cherryville relinquishing ETJ to Gaston County would help streamline the zoning process for their project.There is continued opposition from residents and businesses in the area to the project, saying that they have water and environmental concerns that the project would cause.

Charlotte firm buys Gastonia's Whiskgar's

Owners of Charlotte's South End's Vintage have bought Whiskgars Premium Whiskey and Cigar Lounge. The space will continue to be operated as Whiskgars for the time being, but will eventually be re-branded as Vintage Gastonia. All of the employees were retained.Whiskgars is located at 190 West Main Avenue in downtown Gastonia.


Super Mario Brothers movie killing itWho knew?
My wife and I went to see Air with Matt Damon and Ben Afflack over the weekend (meh...). The theater was jammed. I asked at the concession stand what everyone was there to see, and he said "Mario Brothers"

Movie" blew past expectations in its weekend debut, bringing in a whopping $377 million in global box office sales and $204.6 million in domestic sales between Wednesday and Sunday, per Comscore. The movie also scored 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, In this case the criitics are out of touch (again), giving the movie only a 56% approval rating.We saw lots of kids and young people in their Mario caps and outfits...
