Developer planning new apartment complex on river in Mount HollyAtlanta based Penler, a real estate development firm, has purchased 31.5 acres of riverfront property in Mount Holly for $6.3 million.The site is near the Stowe Family YMCA at 55 Caldwell Drive. it is also near the new Fairfield Inn & Suites in Mount Holly.The developers plan to put a 314 unit apartment complex on the property, and possibly a waterfront restaurant or brewery.
Albemarle Corp looking to restart lithium mining in Kings MountainAlbemarle Corp, based in Charlotte, is planning on restarting lithium mining operations in King Mountain.The company held a public meeting yesterday at the Kings Mountain City Hall to answer questions. According to the company, they are years away from applying for permits.The company has been buying up land, including the Hounds Ears Drive In and campground, although Hounds Ears Drive In says they are continuing operations as usual for now.
Confederate Monument back in courtThe monument of a Confederate soldier at the Gaston County courthouse is back in the news. And, due to a lawsuit by the NAACP, the monument was back in court again yesterday.The monument was given to the county in 1912 by Daughters of Confederate Veterans. So far the county has spent $100,000 fighting the lawsuit.Commissioners maintain that they do not have the legal authority to move the monument, citing North Carolina's Monuments Law, which states that objects of remembrance on public property cannot be removed, except under special circumstances.
UNC vs Duke in final FourBasketball fans are delirious. Duke and Carolina play again- this time in the Final Four. It is the first time they have played each other in the NCAA tournament. They have played in the regular season 257 times before, with Coach K leading 50-47.Duke and Carolina will square off this Saturday at 8:49 PM ET.Kansas plays Villanova at 6:09 PM ET.

The team is part of the Atlantic League, which is not associated with major league baseball. According to the league, about 40% of the players are former major league players.The Honey Hunters averaged 1,973 fans per game in 2021. The league average was 2,553.“I think our inaugural season was a lot of fun,” said Brandon Bellamy, team owner . “The fans were amazing, the community rallied around the team. I think our partners and our sponsors really came together. That energy was awesome.” “I would like to see our attendance be a lot higher,” Bellamy said. “I feel strongly that the offerings we’re providing this season are going to increase that.”
