Gastonia Honey Hunters booted from leagueThe Gastonia Honey Hunters are no longer part of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Evidently the team was terminated from the league for financial issues; a spokesman for the league having confirmed this to the Charlotte business Journal. A spokesman with the league also stated that the league intends to field a team in Gastonia next year.We are hearing that the City of Gastonia has filed a lawsuit asking to terminate it's agreement with the team for the ballpark's use. "The City is seeking a preliminary injunction to establish sole possession of the ballpark facility in order to protect the significant public investment," the city said in a statement this afternoon. "The City will continue to make the ballpark facility a viable place for all types of future events, including Atlantic League Professional Baseball."The Honey Hunters have reportedly had financial problems going back to 2021. The team is owned by Brandon Bellamy, CEO of the Velocity Companies.GA hopes that if we get a new team owner, that the team will be renamed to something more appropriate for Gaston County and the region.
