The Glenn Foundation gives $240,000 to local organizations In their 52nd year, the Glenn Foundation has given $240,000 to local organizations. Founded in 1971 by two sisters, Carrie E. Glenn, and Lena V. Glenn, the Glenn foundation has given approximately $10 million to local educational, musical, and social ministries.Here is a list of organizations and amounts this year: African American Museum of History, $15,000 for, "Help Graduate Me!" Party City auctioning leases, including GastoniaParty City recently announced that they are closing all of it''s 700 stores, including the store in Gastonia.A&G Real Estate partners has been enlisted to sell the leases. The Gastonia store is 11,970 square feet. The lease auction is expected to happen in February.
Caromont Health makes listCaromont was on the Charlotte Business Journal's list of largest Charlotte Metro employers. Caromont was 14th with 3,980 employees.Daimler Trucks, which has 2 locations in Gaston County, was 9th, with 6,800 employees. Daimler Truck North America LLC (formerly Freightliner Corporation)is headquartered in Portland Oregon, and an LLC of the German multinational Daimler Truck AG.

OMB Mount Holly still on trackIn spite of some industry related headwinds, Olde Mecklenburg Brewery is full speed ahead in Mount Holly. According to Jim Birch, COO of OMB, the Mount Holly location is undergoing design, engineering, and permitting. Groundbreaking will happen "soon" with estimated completion in late 2025.The new facility will be built on Elm Avenue in Mount Holly, and will overlook the Catawba River where Dutchman Creek joins.

Two bobcats badly burned in Crowders Mountain fireTwo bobcats were 'badly burned" in a wildfire at Crowders Mountain in December. The fire happened on December 8th, and burned 650 acres of woods, although no homes or buildings were damaged.Although folks with the Carolina Wildlife Conservation Center searched for the bobcats, unfortunately they were not located.Find out more about Carolina Conservation Wildlife Center here

Gastonia Police Detective Sam Barksdale recognizedThe Gastonia Police Department has announced that Detective Sam Barksdale was named as a recipient of the 2024 United States Attorney General's Award for Outstanding Service. Barksdale was given the award based on his work with the United States Marshals Service Carolina Regional Fugitive Task Force based in Charlotte.

Gaston College Rhinos back in action after impressive start

Gaston College's basketball program last played on Dec. 19 when the Rhinos increased their winning streak to 12 games while finishing their first semester slate with an impressive 12-1 record that is the school's second-best start to a season in history.
Back at practice since last Thursday, Gaston College coach Benny Moss is seeking to get his team ready for its upcoming 14-game Region 10 Division I schedule with two upcoming nonconference matchups - Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Converse junior varsity and Saturday at 3 p.m. at Gastonia's Ashbrook High School against Pitt Community College.
