March means March madness of course, and the NCAA tournament starts today. I don’t have a dog in the fight (okay, the Cavaliers and the Wolfpack) but Duke is the #1 seed. Enjoy everyone!

Large Gaston County tract up for sale after project falters
A large Gaston County site has been put up for sale by the owners.
A 231 acre site off of Edgewood Road in Gastonia was owned by Indus Realty Trust who planned to put an industrial park there. Those plans never materialized.
The site is currently being marketed by Foundry Partners. The site’s current zoning allows light industrial uses. Nearby properties allow for light and heavy industrial, residential and commercial uses.

One of Gastonia’s favorite breakfast spots has moved
Downtown Gastonia for the win! Fannie Cakes Breakfast Bakery Cafe has moved around the corner to 101 East Main Avenue. They now have more space and definitely bring even more energy to downtown Gastonia. They are open 7:30-12:30 Tuesday through Friday, and 9:00 to 12:20 on Saturday.
Belmont Social House has opened
Belmont Social House has opened at 508 Woodlawn Street in Belmont in the former Thirsty Social Club space.
Alora More is the new owner. They have pool tables, corn hole, fire pit, beer pong, ping pong, darts, drink specials, and 33 beers on tap. Dogs welcome! Oh- and an outdoor sand volleyball court! Find out more.
Riverfest coming up May 2nd-plus a floating concert!
Join us for our 7th annual family-friendly celebration of our local waterways on May 2nd! Come out to downtown McAdenville (the field outside the Dynamo 31 Building) for live music, kayaking, food trucks, craft beer, artisans, local vendors, kids’ activities, and a FLOATING CONCERT!
The main RiverFest event will take place from 11 AM - 4 PM in McAdenville, then the Floating Concert will float down the South Fork River from the main event to Cramerton from 4:30 - 6:00 PM. After that, you can keep the fun going at Confluence in Cramerton, NC with drinks and more live music!
Admission is free, with the opportunity to support Catawba Riverkeeper and your local waterways by purchasing drinks and tickets to the Floating Concert.

TapSide Pizza replaces The Loaded Potato in Belmont
The restaurant inside of Primal Brewery, The Loaded Potato is no more.They have been replaced by Tapside pizza. (TapSide..get it?) Never ate at the Loaded Potato, but a pizza place seems to be a better fit for a brewery. They serve scratch made artisan pizza-yum! Need to check it out!

New mural going up on the School Specialties Building in Belmont
Boyce McKinney, local resident and muralist extraordinaire, is doing a new mural for Dick Cromlish and the Daughters of the American Revolution. The mural is going on the side of the Schools Specialties Building in Belmont at West Woodrow and North Main Street. Way cool guys!

Confederate Statue stays for now…
The statue of a Confederate soldier in front of the Gaston County Courthouse will stay in place for now. This follows a March 2026 ruling by the NC Court of Appeals that denied its removal. The court rejected arguments that the statue violates state constitutional rights, allowing it to stay despite previous local efforts to remove it.
