So football is back, school is back, pumpkin spice is back, cooler temperatures are back…at least momentarily. I always hate to see summer go, but not the incinerating heat we have had lately. I actually have on long pants and sleeves as I post this.
Actually fall has a special vibe all it’s own. We lived in Miami for a while when I was a kid, and I remember my parents saying that they missed the change of seasons.

City of Gastonia forces owner of defunct Honey Hunters into Chapter 7 liquidation
A Maryland court has converted the bankruptcy case filed by the Honey Hunters owners from Chapter 11 to Chapter 7. The change will allow the City of Gastonia to pursue reclaiming 3 parcels adjacent to the ballpark through the Federal Debt Collection Procedures Act.
Bellamy and companies ownership of the land was contingent on them developing the properties adjacent to the stadium. Six years later, the lots sit vacant, and blocked off to prevent anyone from parking there.
What’s up in Mount Holly?
This space is at 117 NC 27 in Mount Holly. According to Mount Holly planning and zoning, the owner is Eric Lanier. So far they have pulled permits to renovate the outside and to ready the building for future tenants. They do not have a tenant lined up yet, but we know of at least one interested party.

Prayer ribbons at Good Shepherd Lutheran
Above are prayer ribbons on the wrought iron fence in front of Good Shepherd Lutheran in Mount Holly. Each ribbon represents a prayer from a passerby, and they have tied a ribbon to the fence to commemorate that prayer. The ribbons are free and in a small box attached to the fence. There are hundreds of colorful prayer ribbons attached to the fence.
Good Shepherd Lutheran is located at 110 South Main Street in Mount Holly. Rev. Kara Stewart is the pastor.
Mountaineer Days Heritage Festival: October 10th, 2026
Kings Mountain, NC: The City of Kings Mountain is proud to present the Mountaineer Days Heritage Festival, scheduled for October 10th, 2025. “This is a unique festival that celebrates Kings Mountain’s heritage while bringing our community together,’’ stated Angela Padgett, Tourism and Events Coordinator for the City of Kings Mountain. “Come out and spend the day in our town, enjoying live music and family-friendly activities for all to enjoy.”
On October 10th, the fun begins in Patriots Park at 12:00 pm, with activities at the Gazebo and Liberty Falls Amphitheater. A sweet potato pie recipe contest, pumpkin pie eating contest, and a Howl-O-Ween Pet Costume Contest are just a few of the fun activities families can enjoy together.
Liberty Falls Amphitheater will offer live music throughout the day, beginning with Kings Mountain High School’s Kings Revue. Smitty and the Jumpstarters, Mason Cole, and Common Clay will also take the stage. DJ Drew Fulton will MC the entire event.
You’re invited to a Labyrinth opening!

When: Thursday, October 8th, 4:30 PM- 6;30 PM
What: Join us for the Blue Ribbon opening ceremony for the Labyrinth at Arts on the Greenway. Enjoy learning to use a labyrinth. Arts on the Greenway will be open and refreshments will be served. Visit the brick sidewalk with the names of those donating bricks, and be sure to check out the bench donated by the Acipiter family.
Gaston Aquatics getting close!
The new Gaston Aquatics facility in Dallas is getting close! We hear they are looking at a late October/early November opening-how exciting!
The new pool will be able to host major regional competitions, and allow swimmers to post qualifying times locally. But the pool will also offer swim lessons, physical therapy and rehabilitation services, as well as training for dive teams and first responders.
Natalie Tindol receives the 2026 Allen H. Sims Award
Last Thursday, we had the joy of celebrating one of the most inspiring and generous people we know, Natalie Tindol, affectionately known as Gaston County's biggest cheerleader.
Natalie's kind heart and giving spirit are something we should all strive for. She has truly earned this award through years of tireless work across so many nonprofits and unwavering dedication to the people and causes of our community.
Congratulations, Natalie! Gaston County is better because of you.

Drift on Lake Wylie- a review
My wife and I went to Drift last Monday for our anniversary. If you haven’t been, Drift is beautiful restaurant on the shores of Lake Wylie.
We ordered the Tuna Tower as an appetizer, and I ordered the wedge salad. They were both really good,,,the wedge had plenty of dressing, blue cheese and bacon; just the way I like it.
My wife got the filet “served with Drift steak butter and crispy potato hay” and asparagus. They were both excellent, with the asparagus being especially tender.
I ordered the Crab Bucatini, which is a creamy pasta. It had a lemon butter sauce, capers, asparagus, and came with toasted ciabatta and charred lemon. Very good, but super rich… I took half home.
For dessert we had their signature carrot cake. It was delicious, but I would prefer a cream cheese icing.
The manager Jennifer Tiller was gracious and accommodating (She didn’t know she was being reviewed!) Beautiful restaurant, excellent food. If you haven’t visited-make it a priority!
Gaston County’s Rick Haithcox to exhibit at the Light Gallery
The work is currently displayed at the Light Factory. The artist Rick Haithcox will be on hand Saturday October 3rd at 7 PM to answer questions and talk briefly about the work.
Red, White, and Moo ya’ll- The Cleveland County Fair!
Not in Gaston County- but you need to go to the Cleveland County Fair at least once in your life. The Cleveland County Fair is the largest county fair in the state.
For the young and young at heart, there are rides, rides, and more rides. Fried foods, BBQ, tons of entertainment, all kinds of farm animals, displays, performances….too much to list here! Be sure to get some fries from the place at the top of the fair…they will be hot and fresh and come in a white snow cone cup. Slather with salt and malt vinegar for a treat to be remembered!
Seriously-it’s an overwhelming experience! You need to go if you‘ve never been…
