A rendering of the new cancer center to be built at Caromont

CaroMont to spend $200 million on oncology services in Belmont & Gastonia

CaroMont is planning to build a new 125,000 square foot cancer center on their main campus in Gastonia. They are also planning a new radiation therapy center and a new hematology and oncology offices at CaroMont’s Belmont campus.

Cancer is a leading cause of death in Gaston County, and CaroMont’s new facility will make it easier for patients to navigate care, and be more collaborative for providers. The new project will double CaroMont’s oncology capacity from 1,500 new cases each year to 3000.

The new hematology and oncology offices in Belmont should be operational by June.

Painted Tree Boutique has closed…suddenly

Painted Tree Boutique in Gastonia closed suddenly last week, to the surprise and disappointment of many of the vendors. Lot’s of vendors are angry and upset, feeling that there could have been better communication.

Painted Tree is reportedly preparing to file Chapter 7 bankruptcy, which is known as “straight bankruptcy”. It involves the sale of the debtor’s non-exempt assets, if any, to pay off creditors. So they are not reorganizing to try and remain solvent.

Their website says “Painted Tree closed effective April 16, 2026.” Vendors were instructed to pick up their merchandise between 10AM and 6 PM until April, assuming the landlord will allow that.

Although not my thing personally, it seemed like a cool concept and I was glad to see them come to Gaston County, and sad to see them go. Good luck to all the local vendors.

Gastonia seeks developer for hotel, restaurant

We told you last week that the City of Gastonia is seeking proposals to build a hotel next to the Conference Center. They are also seeking proposals for a restaurant to be built on a pad site near the CaroMont Health Park, at 105 North Trenton Street, just beyond center field.

The builder of the hotel would receive incentives from the city. It is unclear if the restaurant will receive the same.
