Local author Jefferson Fortner releases new book

My friend and Gaston County native Jefferson Fortner has just released a new book called ABC Dreary: A Dreadful Alphabet book. Technically it’s an ABC Darium, which is a book to teach children the alphabet….but this one is filled with dark humor. For example “A is for the hidden axe your mother has behind her back”. The book is illustrated by Don Morgan, who has been an exhibiting artist since 1978. He is based in Greensboro.

Fortner will be at Catawba Coffee In Mount Holly on December 13th, 12-4 PM.Catawba Coffee is located at 104 West Charlotte Ave in Mount Holly.

Shout out to Mike & Christina at Piedmont Farmstead. They do intensive ecological farming that results in some of the tastiest and healthiest produce ever! Now that farmer’s markets are over, pretty sure they offer farm pickup only- but you can check them out here.

I have been to the Charlotte Civic Orchestra’s Christmas Extravaganza several years in a row-and I have to say it is fabulous! Good news for the Gaston County Museum of Art & History and Camp Sertoma

The Gaston County Board of Commissioners has voted to sell the Mary Ellen Nelson Center on the Dallas Cherryville Highway to Partners Health Management for $2.6 million. Critically, the sale agreement will allow existing tenants Camp Sertoma and the Gaston County Museum of Art & History to remain for a minimum of seven years.

The agreement is an example of an agreement that is beneficial for all the entities involved. The Gaston County Museum of Art & History currently uses a portion of the property to house its archives, which contain a majority of the museum’s more than 83,000 pieces from its total collection.

Camp Sertoma is a nonprofit which has operated a summer camp for disabled youths and adults on a portion of the property for nearly five decades. Much like the Museum, the agreement with Partners Health Management will allow Camp Sertoma to continue providing an important resource for members of the community.
