Good morning Gaston County, it's David.

Today is November 18th, 2025.

Thanksgiving is next week. People go crazy decorating for Halloween and Christmas…but not Thanksgiving. I have seen a few inflatable turkeys…which are sort of funny. I know lots of people love them, but I think the Christmas inflatables are tacky, tacky. But that’s just me.

By they way, check out our new survey at the end of today’s newsletter. Each week we will have a new survey, and tell you the results of last week’s survey.

Today's weather: Mostly cloudy with a high 69.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy with a low of 52.

1776 Gastonia is now owned by Eastwood Homes

1776 Gastonia is no more

Remember the uber patriotic development 1776 Gastonia that was coming to Gastonia? They are no more. The two remaining homes built by NewStyle-the former owners of 1776 Gastonia-are being sold by John Bolin with Howard Hanna and Allen Tate. NewStyle has sold their remaining interest to Eastwood Homes, who is now building there as well. The new name of the project is Founders Landing.

1776 Gastonia required homeowners, via a covenant, to display the American flag at their home year-round. Other flags and political signs were generally not permitted. Residents were expected to affirm the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.

City of Gastonia Receives Two Grants for the New Active Adult Center

The City of Gastonia announced that it has been awarded a grant in the amount of $237,500 from the North Carolina Department of Commerce (NCDOC), as well as a $5,000 grant from the North Carolina League of Municipalities (NCLM), to renovate its new Active Adult Center.

As part of the first phase of renovations at the new facility, located at 107 South Broad Street, the City will use the grant funds from the NCDOC, which requires a City match of five percent (5%) or $11,975, to upgrade the lighting and replace windows and flooring. The grant from NCLM will be used for security cameras. The City is also pursuing additional grant funding for electrical updates in the building through the City’s partnership with ElectriCities.

The property will serve as the new home for the programs and activities previously offered at the former National Guard Armory/Adult Recreation Center (ARC) on West Franklin Boulevard. The City is currently accepting proposals for the redevelopment of the former ARC facility.
